Indo Pacific Championships Pty Ltd (IPR) is establishing a new six team premier rugby competition to be staged throughout the Indo Pacific region from 2018. The Indo Pacific Rugby Championship (Competition) will re-invent the future of Rugby Union in the fastest growing consumer market in the world. It will be played in Indo Pacific region, where over 60% of the world’s people live in a substantially similar time zone.
The Competition will launch with initially six teams playing matches in a friendly time zone critical for broadcasters and sponsors to capture over 60% of the world’s population.
There will be a team from Perth, Australia and IPR will select another five teams from the Indo Pacific region in due course. The selection process will focus on countries that have either an established or growing interest in rugby union. Markets include China, Fiji, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Japan, Korea Republic, Malaysia, Samoa, Singapore, Sri Lanka, India and Tonga.
The proposed competition format consists of 33 matches. It will be played across ten rounds on a home and away basis, culminating in a finals series.
